Unpacking flows like old glue
Reshelving turns to rereading
old friends
(We’re just three fraikus from the election,
so here’s a political one I wrote two years ago,
Fraiku: Republicans.)
About Bartholomew Barker
Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.
I like both of these fraikus. They express more than the few words they contain.

Thanks, Pat! I’d like to think that all poetry does that but haiku especially.

Some do that more aptly than others.

I loved that fraiku then, and I love it now! And it hasn’t changed, unfortunately. The times in which we live.
I love those floors in your new place!

Thanks, Tre! I think of all my haiku I’m most proud of that Republican one.
And, yeah, these wood floors are really cool after spending all those years on carpet in the old place.

You take a book from the box – you think…’I’ll just have a quick look’. Hours later, your stomach tells you to eat!

And the box is still full.

Ain’t that the truth. I revisit my old friends when I pack up to move but it’s the same feeling of “Ah I forgot I had this!”
Republican one – still excellent,

Thanks, JM! Glad I”m not the only one. It really slows down the whole moving process.

is that your space or a pixabay pic? Lovely poem. It’s like bumping into an old friend.

“Unpacking flows like old glue”! What a great metaphor. I only went on a ten day trip and my suitcase has not been unpacked yet. Yep, old glue. :)

It’s always fun (and so slow!) to reshelve books!
