I was surprised to see my poem Learning about Nazis in High School on the Dissident Voice Poetry on Sunday feed this afternoon! I’m honored they chose to publish it but I had no idea it was happening. That just shows one should always follow the sites one submits to.

Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.

Wonderful poem, Bartholomew. I think when we’re young, we’re all idealists; but with age comes the realization that we’re not as brave and strong as we once thought we were.

I appreciate the honesty of this poem. I always hope that I would be the rescuer, the brave person to stand up. Your poem makes me think about what am I doing now?

It’s all fun and games until some people lose their rights and freedoms. Good poem.
North of Oxford does that weird thing too where they just put the poem up without telling the poet. I never would have known my pandemic poem was published if you hadn’t seen me and alerted ne,

Thank you, JM! I think that pandemic edition of North of Oxford was an aberration. They let me know when they accepted Everybody Knows that it wouldn’t get posted until January. I think they’ve got a six month backlog these day.
