Soft as kitten paws
It sleeps like a fleece blanket
comforting us all

Your description of a fog is calm and enchanting, Bart

Thank you, Ivor. Glad you liked it. I stole the image in the first line from Carl Sandburg’s poem Fog, obviously.

I thought…’He’s ‘nicked that!’ But fair enough – you fessed up.

Yeah, I’ll claim I was inspired by Sandburg and thus it’s an homage.
“The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.”

It just so happened to be a foggy day today. I’m not a big fan of the stuff. I like to see where I’m going. Good job.

Thanks, JM! Seeing where you’re going is overrated.

That’s a very cosy view of fog……here’s an alternative….”βFog everywhere. Fog up the river where it flows among green airs and meadows; fog down the river, where it rolls defiled among the tiers of shipping, and the waterside pollutions of a great (and dirty) city…. Chance people on the bridges peeping over the parapets into a nether sky of fog, with fog all round them, as if they were up in a balloon and hanging in the misty clouds.β

Yeah, North Carolina has a very different relation with fog than London.

Or Orkney….it can be thick fog here, and clear a mile down the road! Wherever it is…it’s clammy rather than caressing.

What a vivid image of fog (if fog could be vivid!?!) I just read a review of a book called Chasing Fog on a site called Marginalian. You might enjoy the short read: https://www.themarginalian.org/2025/11/18/chasing-fog/?mc_cid=062824e069&mc_eid=184806cb1b

Thanks for sharing, LuAnne! I didn’t realize fog was decreasing due to the climate crisis. Just another bit of beauty we’re losing.

We’re covered in fog in this part of NC this morning… how appropriate, how fitting.
I love what you’ve done with this haiku, Bart.

Thank you, trE. Whenever I’m inspired by weather, I know it’ll resonate with you since we live in the same part of the planet.
