My Dog Bobo

For today’s prompt, write a smell poem.

My Dog Bobo

Gets frustrated while we walk
because I don’t let him savor
the odors in the earth
or on the tree trunks

My nose fails to fathom
the subtle shades of scent
the delicate melody on the wind
the multilayered poetry of aroma

Humans are not the apex of evolution
our noses might as well be stuffed
Bobo believes the dog next door
is the Shakespeare of stink

but I’ll never appreciate
such fine smelling art

    “Frankie is my doggie”
    Supposedly a champagne colour
But more like a dirty off-white
    Woolly picnic blanket

    Friendly by nature
    On hind legs he prances
    Then promptly hit sits
Holds out his soft curly paw

    He has the Cafe waitresses
    Melt at his doggie command
    Frankie knows how to score
    Treats galore come his way
He is a happy winner everyday

  5. Bart,

What a wonderful imagining of what it must be like!! Great stuff. But the pic of Bobo’s face is priceless. You have to love all dogs with two-different colored eyes straight away.

    Thanks, Mary

  8. I read a tweet recently from someone who was pleased and amazed to see a dog owner wait patiently for their dog to sniff whatever it was he was sniffing. I have terriers so that’s ALL our walks consist of :) :)

Coincidentally, one of our dogs is called Toby and we call him Bobo for short. Although it’s not shorter, consisting of the same number of letters and syllables :)
