Greeting from Edinburgh!

edinburg.jpg

Early this morning I landed in Glasgow after one of the best flights I’ve ever enjoyed. I assume the Independence Day holiday suppressed demand and only half my flight was filled. I had all three seats on my side of the row to myself! I assume the airline didn’t make as much money but with a more appropriate number of passengers, the flight attendants were less stressed and, since we paying customers weren’t packed like PEEPS®, we were less stressed.

The drive from Glasgow to Edinburgh was uneventful despite driving on the wrong side of the road and getting lost in the rental car parking lot. I assumed I was hallucinating when I arrived at the hotel and found a Krispy Kreme and KFC across the street.

It was too early to check in, so I left the car and my luggage at the hotel and road the tram into the city center where I found the national archives. They’ve got all their genealogy records digitized so I spent some time trying to figure out 18th and 19th century handwriting until I noticed I was falling asleep at the terminal.

I’ve had a little food and a little sleep since then and am feeling better but I’m eager to get a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, I am very far north and we are still just a few weeks from the solstice so the sun won’t set until 10pm here and my window faces west.

Tomorrow, back to the archives to see what my non-sleep-deprived mind can find.
