Last summer, my poem, Overnight at the Downs, was one of the winners of the Flapper Press Ekphrastic Contest and I guess they really liked it because it was just nominated it for the Best of the Net anthology in poetry.
My thanks to everyone at Flapper Press for this honor.
Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.
This poem somehow manages to channel a point between Australia’s two favourite and rival Bush Poets – Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson. It seems unlikely that you have heard of them. Each would have liked it I’m sure.
Congratulations Bart.
Wow, Bart! How awesome is this?! All right now! Congratulations! ππΎππΎππΎ

Wow! I’ve heard of Banjo Paterson but I’ll have to check out Henry Lawson. I’m honored to be compared to them. Thank you, DD!

I like to think of myself as a bit of a Beat Poet but now I may have to consider being a Bush Poet or maybe a beat around the bush poet…

WANTED Beat around the Bush beardy poet with ear for ‘Push’ bad bard name required
(The Sydney Push is the name of a group of Australian up and comers that included Germain Greer, Clive James in the beat era)

The Push is new to me. I’ll check them out. Thanks!
