Free Verse Revolution: Compass

I’m am very proud to announce that two of my poems have been included in Free Verse Revolution Issue XI: compass which is now available for free digital download or to purchase a good old fashioned hard copy for display on your bookshelf. (Readers in India should get their hard copy from Pothi since apparently Lulu won’t ship there.)

One of my poems is called “Directions to My Place”. It was one of my April Poems-A-Day posted here six months ago. The other is “Nasal Magnetite” and if you want to read it, you’ll have to download the PDF or buy a copy like a good poetry consumer. Here’s the opening stanza:

I don’t get lost—
probably an over-sized
hunk of magnetite
behind my nose
is to blame…

Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021.     I was going to lament my ignorance of free verse revolution (amongst many other things) but then I realised that this lifetime habit of following clues left by others (books left on library desks in the old days and nowadays cyberous links) has led me to find your words in compass. And I like that.
    I like my life of random meandering and I like those poems too.

    Tho not often fond of free verse, I enjoyed the humorous way *Directions to My Place* deals with the idea that personal identity emerges from decades of choices and experiences that don’t ride on a separate soul like remoras riding on a shark. Well done.
