For today’s prompt, write a blank in the blank poem.
Singing in the Shower
When my muse tells me she’s going to take a shower
I feign disinterest, pretend I’m fixing a stanza,
until I hear the rush of a sudden waterfall
and the rattle of a plastic curtain closing.
I sneak in, not just because in there she’s naked,
but to get a front row seat, as her voice,
magnified by the hard surfaces, fills the air
already dripping with steam.
The warmth and her soprano embrace my mere human body.
Some songs I know— Mary wondering how to love him,
Butterfly’s longing for that beautiful day
or Mimi asking for a light— it all resonates.
And sometimes she lets me in,
to sing a duet.
Never thought of the shower can be a recording studio. 😃
