Interesting Times

For today’s prompt: Write a lucky poem and/or Write an unlucky poem.

Interesting Times

I was talking with this fish
the other day while I rested
on a rock in the Eno River
along the trail I was hiking.

She’d noticed a change in her world.
The water was clearer, the air quieter,
even the water striders tasted better.
She felt lucky—

Lucky to be alive in this glorious
time. She had no word for virus,
but I explained that my people
were getting sick and scared.

She sympathized and wished the best
for me and my school before swimming
away and I wondered about living
in these interesting times.

Interesting indeed! It’s amazing what wonderful gifts have been given to nature these days. Think we’ll learn anything?
