Bartholomew Barker is one of the organizers of Living Poetry, a collection of poets and poetry lovers in the Triangle region of North Carolina. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he makes money as a computer programmer to fund his poetry habit.

    Such hypocrisy. Feigning such concern for the fetus but once that child is in the world it’s on it’s own because the Republicans will do all they can to eliminate all social programs even free school lunches that might help that child and mother.

      For the true believers, the fetus is untainted by original sin but once it’s born, it’s a sinner like everyone else. Of course, there are plenty of Republican shills who don’t believe but just want the true believers votes and money. It’s been a useful wedge issue since the 80’s. I just hope brings out the Democratic base.

    It’s an odd business. The Republicans, as I understand it, started by supporting freedoms in America – Abe Lincoln was their first President! And now – they often stand for the opposite of freedom.
    The Conservative Party allegedly started off with ideas of conserving the good things about life in Britain but have, for some time, stood for……the opposite.

    Politics – human behaviour – an odd business.

    To quote Bjork…

      While political historians can explain the various shifts in political parties from left to right and back again, I don’t worry too much about it. In politics, history can be informative but what’s important are the policies they support now.
