From the Poetic Asides blog:
For today’s prompt, write a historic poem. It could be a poem about a landmark event, specific battle, an era in time, or whatever you consider a historic happening.
All our dates
will be overshadowed
by history
with Nine-Elevens,
December Sevenths,
July Fourths,
and Cincos de Mayo.
Your birthday
will always be shared
with Shakespeare,
mine with L.B.J.
But I still remember
every date of import,
every first, every last,
from the night you appeared
unexpected at my door
to the day the papers
were signed and stamped
by the judge.
