What do cars want?

The EndThis morning Postcard Poems and Prose published one of my poems from last year’s poem-a-day challenge. I love the way the folks at P. P. & P. combine poetry and visuals. It makes for great eye candy and they did a great job on mine.

For today’s prompt, write a machine poem. A machine could be a car or a robot, obviously, but simple machines include levers, pulleys, and screws. There’s also “machine learning” and “deus ex machina.” But there are manyother ways to come at this prompt as well.

What do cars want?

Does my car enjoy the day off
when I walk to work,
relaxing, recharging, idling,
out of the wind and rain?

Does she feel claustrophobic
in the barely wide enough garage
like a caged tigress pacing,
urging to the wide open?

My car feels nothing at all.
While I use feminine pronouns,
since I enjoy being inside her,
she had no mind, no soul.

I have a mind, but no soul.
I am a biological machine
evolved to reproduce myself
on Friday nights in the backseat.
