Monday Night Poetry

Monday Night PoetryIt had been too long since reading at an open mic so I thought I’d try the one held at the Central Greensboro Public Library on third Mondays. I’d never driven out to Greensboro for poetry before but when I noticed that it was as close to me as Raleigh, I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did. Not only did I get to meet Alfred, the organizer of the Triad Poetry Meetup, but I also got to read my three Brazil poems to a gracious audience of over 20 people. The other poets did a mix of their own work and some cover poems. I especially enjoyed Miss Jean reading Maya Angelou in Jamaican Patois.

Central LibraryThe Central Library is gorgeous, by the way. They have this lovely sculpture in the atrium that I think looks like a dolmen.

Next open mic: Thursday July 31st at Gather in Cary.

We would have surprised each other if I made it out there! I’ve had that in my calendar for some time and only skipped tonight because I ended up working straight past 7 this evening. Will check it out another month!
